for the love of birds and words #1

Loose Feathers Poetry Corner

I have decided to create a regular Friday feature here which will include progress pics on Awake the Dawning Day accompanied by poetry. Why, you may ask? Well, I:
  • just re-joined the Loose Feathers Club, which this year is bird-themed
  • just started "Awake the Dawning Day" and am so excited about this piece , and
  • just acquired this beautiful book, an anthology of bird poems
So there you have it.

First, my little start on AtDD. A bit slow going because of all the color changes, but oh, those beautiful colors!

And now our first selection, Bird-Language, by W.H. Auden:

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and get some nice stitching in.

I joined the Loose Feathers club, too, when the light dawned and I realized this year's theme was birds. But none of my charts have arrived yet - grrr!

I love bird poetry. We put the following, from an ee cummings poem, on the birth cards for our younger son, "I would rather learn from one bird how to sing than to teach 10,000 stars how not to dance.

Rachel - Beautiful start on "Awake" I love the linen you are using - it's perfect for that piece! :)

I have a question. When you cross stitch ( I cross stitch, but never 'learned') do you do a part of a picture at a time, or do you do all of one color? For example, the pic you showed, did you finish out a bird before ou moved onto, let's say, the vine? Is that how you do this? I usually stitch one color, and the back tends to be a mess.....maybe this is why!

Thanks!
Monique

What a beautiful start on Awake the Dawning Day! I'm working on mine today Rachel. I'll be sure to keep you posted on how it's going, and your notes of progress will be something to look forward to on Fridays. Can you please tell me the title of the bird poetry book?

Enjoy your day,
Nancy

Rachel - this is lovely. Did you change the fabric and the threads from the original design? If you did, I'd sure love to know what you changed. This project has just moved to the top of my stitching list.

PS Your new kitten is so cute.
